Teaching Artist Gabrielle
Zane has over fifteen years of experience developing and implementing
varieties of curriculum and has taught students of all ages. Her
programs utilize creative writing as a tool for improving
students' skills in the writing process and expression through
the arts. She conducts highly effective programs in poetry, oral
history, personal
essay and drama. Her
"Write Perspectives" program has been used with special education
and at-risk populations. Her curriculum often incorporates the exploration
of cultural diversity and tolerance through writing. Her background
and training in working with at-risk youth and her work as a poet
and creative writing instructor provides Ms. Zane with a unique combination
of skills as a writer-in-residence. |
| “I started
teaching oral history and poetry about ten years ago after
making a career shift from Special Education. I found that the
young adults with whom I was working were writing moving and interesting
pieces of poetry. I wanted to encourage the art as a personal and
social outlet for them as it has been for me. I found that I can be effective
at helping kids find who they are by teaching them how to communicate
through the art of creative writing.” ~ Gabrielle Zane
